Special September Intensive Course Ancient Greek Levels I and II

Polis – The Jerusalem Institute of Language and Humanities is offering a special course this September in Ancient Greek for students who want to start the new academic year with a better command of the language.

The double course will allow a complete beginner to receive 115 Academic Hours of instruction in the language over one month and complete both levels I and II in the language. Like all courses at Polis, it will be taught only using The Polis Method which emphasizes total immersion and speech fluency, the only language spoken in the class will be the target language.

The Polis Method has been developed by our team of linguists over the past decade to give students the best pedagogical experience. Polis combines teachers of many different languages from varied backgrounds which gives us an incredible environment to innovate and improve our method. You can read more about The Polis Method and watch videos of classes here.

While one level of Ancient Greek at Polis costs 2850NIS (New Israeli Shekels) this double course has a special discounted price of 3750NIS. Meaning the second level is discounted by almost 2000NIS. In addition students who register and pay in full by August 26th will receive a further 200NIS early registration discount.

We are offering multiple groups of the class online – in both EU and US time – in addition to our offering of other Ancient Greek classes over September. You can see our entire Ancient Greek offering for September here

The course aims at enabling the student to find orientation in a Greek classroom. Students will learn how to express communicative needs and talk about the immediate classroom situation. They will be introduced to the fundamentals of the language’s morphology, phonology, and prosody.

They will also become familiar with the basic concepts of grammar (parts of speech; declension and conjugation; fundamental case functions; mood and aspect), using The Polis Method. The students will complete a series of written/oral exams that will make up their final grade.

Over the course of Greek I, students will be gain a deep understanding of some basic morphology of Greek and 1000 words, with the goal of being able to hold a basic conversation in Koine Greek as well as to read and understand very simple narrative texts without translating using The Polis Method.
